Area Guide to Ealing

A fairly large and populous borough in west London, Ealing stretches from the borders of Hammersmith & Fulham in the east, to Hillingdon in the far west. With a population of just over 300,000, Ealing is one of the most diverse boroughs in London, with a large Asian community especially around Southall.

Parts of the borough remain rather bland which is typical of west London. Main roads like the A40 plough through the borough creating noise and pollution for the residents who live near by. Parts of the borough have a rather industrial like feel, with factories and council tower blocks dominating the landscape. It's not all bad news though, with professionals attracted by transport links into the city and more open space than other parts of inner London.

One of the most pleasant areas in the borough is Ealing with decent sized detached and semi-detached Victorian and Edwardian properties. Good links into Central London, coupled with more space have attracted the higher earners which have in turn pushed up rental and property prices.

Acton offers a bit of a mix between private and council housing, though some of the private housing is of relatively poor quality. Southall doesn't really have much to offer those looking for quality housing. Very little effort has been made to maintain properties, so the area looks rather run down and tired. Northolt offers more run down council property for those on a limited budget.
