Area Guide to GreenwichFor lettings in Greenwich, please use the menu above. Situated just south of the Thames, Greenwich is at the heart of south-east London. It's neighbours are Bromley to the south, Lewisham to the west, and Bexley to the east. The population, according to the 2001 census, is nearly 215,000, of which 77% are white, 11% Afro-Caribbean and around 9% Asian. Around 50% of householders are owner-occupiers, mainly due to the right to buy scheme in the past. Greenwich is world famous for being the home to Greenwich mean time since 1884, but is also known for something more infamous. The Millennium Dome of course, but despite the negative press the area has enjoyed much welcomed regeneration on otherwise redundant ground, with new homes and shops and the long await Jubilee line extension. Despite the general inner city location, there are around 50 parks to be found in Greenwich, and plenty of open spaces. The more desirable properties can be found in Blackheath and West Greenwich, where larger family homes can be found with a price to match the size. Charlton also has a decent stock of homes, with a variation in price depending on location. As already mentioned in Bexley, Thamesmead which is also in Greenwich offers people on a low budget somewhere to enter the housing market, with some more modern properties springing up recently. Plumstead and Woolwich offer typically working class council estates for those on a low budget. Use of this website and information available from it, is subject to our
