Area Guide to HampshireFor lettings in Hampshire, please use the menu above. Hampshire is a sizable county with a mainly white population of around 1.25 million. Stretching from the south coast up towards Surrey and within close reach of London, Hampshire could be considered as being in a pleasant and convenient location. A relatively prosperous county with plenty of green open spaces and the beautiful New Forest, along with a pleasant coast line make this a fine place to live. The more affluent areas tend to be near, or on the the coast in the west of the county, or in the more rural parts. The less well off areas can be found, as usual, in the major cities which Hampshire has many of. The jewel in Hampshire's crown must be Winchester, which is set in beautiful surroundings with great transport links into London, only serving to boost property values to some of the highest in the country. For those with deep pockets the coastal area town of Lymington is an excellent choice to reside. Large, relatively modern detached homes can be found here in abundance to go with cute cottages in the town centre. It's not all good news for Hampshire, with the usual slum estates to be found in it's main cities. Portsmouth has to be one of the least attractive cities in southern England, with ugly 1960's concrete buildings and massive sink estates. High unemployment, crime and poverty are rife in Portsmouth with little effort to correct the problem. Southampton has a mix of housing, with detached housing to be found on the outskirts, with rows of Victorian terraces and council estates to be found in the more central areas.
