Area Guide to ScotlandFor lettings in Scotland, please use the menu above. Bonny Scotland as it is known, and it really is a beautiful country. Made up of around 800 Islands, Scotland has a land mass of roughly half that of it's neighbour, England. With a falling population of just over 5 million, the majority of it's citizens are white, with only small Asian communities in the main cities, Edinburgh and Glasgow. The majority of Scotland's population reside in the Midland Valley, also known as the Central Belt, with three of its main five cities there. The biggest of these three cities being Glasgow with a population of 578,000, with Edinburgh and Dundee being the other two cities in the Central Belt. The most beautiful parts of Scotland are the Southern Uplands, which are hilly, and the Highlands which are more mountainous. That's not to forget the Lochs in Western Scotland, the most well known being Loch Ness of course. For those who would like to give up the rat race completely, there's always the Hebrides, Orkney's or the Shetland Isles to hide away to. The more expensive properties in Scotland can be found in Edinburgh, which is of no surprise as it is the capital, and where Scotland's financial companies are located. The city has some beautiful Georgian townhouses, especially in the New Town area. For those who require more space, detached homes can be found in the sought after Murrayfield district of Edinburgh. Unfortunately, it's not all good news in Scotland. Glasgow has some of the poorest districts in the whole of Western Europe, with unemployment running at a staggering 13%, and high levels of crime making some parts of the city no go areas. A mass of concrete tower blocks and grim council estates only serve to compound the misery for some of the cities residents. Use of this website and information available from it, is subject to our
