The Borough of Tower Hamlets is a tale of two halves. The wealth of the Docklands development sits close with typical East London slums.

Tower Hamlets is known for it's Asian community. It has the highest percentage of Muslims, at 36.4%, of any local authority in the UK. Of the 196,106 citizens, 51% are white, 33% Bangladeshi, and 6% are Black.

Modern apartment blocks dominate the newly regenerated parts of this borough, which have been built to accommodate the growing demand from city workers who appreciate the location. Unfortunately, some of London's worst council estates can be found nearby, which may put off some prospective tenants.

Warehouse conversions can be found in the previously derelict areas along the Thames, while small terrace properties can be found to the North, mixed with the predictable council housing.

Bethnal Green & Bow
Typically East End of London, but with a bit more to shout about. Poverty and scruffy streets of houses still prevail, but these areas are definately on the up.

Many council flats still exist here, though some have been replaced by modern apartments which attract higher rents. Small and more attractive Victorian terrace housing can be found close to Victoria park.

Isle of Dogs For those who prefer modern apartments over Victorian conversions, this is the area to start looking in. Canary Wharf stands proud with its modern commercial and residential towers. With the popularity of this area rising, don't expect any rental bargains here. Predictably, views of the Thames equates to higher rental values.

Wapping
Previously a bit of a dive, but with the massive regeneration of the Docklands came expensive new apartment blocks. The great location was always going to bring in wealthy city workers, once the executive properties were built.

Whitechapel
Great location, shame about the housing. Some really grim buildings like the derelict Tower House in Whitechapel, remain a blot on the landscape. Some new apartments have been built here however, but the area still has a long way to go.
