Situated in the north and north-east of England, Yorkshire and the Humber is made up of North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and East Riding of Yorkshire. The population for this large area, spanning from the Pennines in the West to the eastern coast of England, is almost 5 million. West Yorkshire is the most populous of this region with over 2 million inhabitants. North Yorkshire is the largest county in England in terms of area size.

A region of diversity, with major towns and cities in the more densely populated south and west, the beautiful countryside to the north, and the coastal resorts to the east, the Yorkshire region has everything to offer, except warm climate.

Property values are highest in the less built up North Yorkshire, and parts of West Yorkshire. Harrogate attracts the middle classes for it's parks and attractive housing. Skipton and York have very pleasant central areas, with low crime rates and clean streets. Ilkley in West Yorkshire is a favourite place for the famous and the middle classes, where old fashioned Victorian homes can be found. Leeds is the new place to be in this region, with many finance companies locating here which has driven up property prices in the more desirable parts. A great vibrant city, with many shops and bars and coffee shops springing up, a sign of an area on the move.

Parts of Yorkshire are also a victim, like many other parts of northern England, to it's industrial past. Many tired Victorian houses can be found in places like Barnsley, Bradford, Doncaster, Halifax and Hull. Sheffield, a massive city in South Yorkshire offers little hope for some of it's residents. Masses of the usual concrete tower blocks and slum estates are riddled with crime and high unemployment. A city that needs to move on.
